At the Newtown Family Center, we believe strong families are the foundation of a thriving community. Newtown residents are actively shaping this community resource hub, where families can access the support they need to ensure child safety and well-being.
Collaborating with the National Family Support Network, we’re bringing proven strategies to Newtown, inspired by communities that have dramatically reduced the impact of poverty on child health, welfare, and school readiness.
Newtown, our historic African American neighborhood, is a place of deep roots and immense potential. It’s a testament to the strength of residents who built Sarasota’s original infrastructure while forging their own vibrant community against tremendous odds. Today, as Sarasota’s only Racially and Ethnically Concentrated Area of Poverty (R/ECAP zone), Newtown faces unique challenges, with child poverty being a significant barrier to healthy development.
Strategically located on Leonard Reid Avenue and staffed by certified Neighborhood Experts, the Newtown Family Center is being co-design by residents to make resources accessible and amplify the impact of existing programs by tailoring them to the unique needs and rich cultural heritage of Newtown families. We’re not just bringing services; we’re becoming an integral part of Newtown’s journey of renewal and growth, committed to preserving our history and fostering a flourishing future.
